Age of Empires Mobile Adornment Guide – Craft, Upgrading
The Adornment system in Age of Empires Mobile is one of the new mount customization features introduced in 2025. It allows players to equip crafted items—such as weapons or armor—that add stats and special effects to their mounted heroes. While the system might seem confusing at first, this guide will break it down step by step so you know exactly how to get the most out of it.
What Are Adornments?
Adornments are special gear pieces for mounts. They come in two categories:
- Weapon-type Adornments (e.g., Swift Blade)
- Armor-type Adornments (e.g., Mystic Mirror)
Right now, you can only equip one adornment at a time, though the interface suggests two slots may become available later (one weapon + one armor).
Attributes
- Weapon adornments usually boost Attack and Skill Damage.
- Armor adornments usually boost Defense and Damage Reduction.
This choice comes down to playstyle—whether you prefer a more offensive or defensive approach.
How to Craft Adornments
To craft an adornment, you’ll need a key material: Mithriot Steel.
Ways to Get Mithriot Steel:
- Bundles (paid option, though not recommended unless you’re pushing early)
- Elite Desert Event (coming soon)
- VIP Shop (small amounts available for purchase)
- Future Events
When crafting, you’ll also notice each adornment comes with a special effect. These are additional skills that trigger in battle, ranging from extra skill damage boosts to damage reduction.
Important: The special effects are RNG-based. You don’t get to choose them, so you’ll need to craft multiple adornments and reroll until you find one that suits your setup.
Special Effects – RNG System
Every adornment carries a random special effect. Examples include:
- Skill Damage Boost: After a normal attack, increase next skill damage by 7–8%.
- Primary Target Damage: Every 9 seconds, your mounted hero deals more damage to their primary target.
- Resistance: Reduces incoming damage for a duration.
These effects depend heavily on RNG, so don’t expect to craft the “perfect” adornment right away.
Upgrading Adornments
Once crafted, adornments can be upgraded in two ways:
1. Intensification (Base Attributes)
- Increases the core stats (Attack, Defense, HP).
- Requires special stones.
- Each adornment can be leveled until it hits a cap.
2. Advancement (Quality/Tier Upgrades)
- Uses different materials such as Refined Iron.
- Moves your adornment from blue → purple → gold → red (Life Rings).
- Higher tiers unlock stronger stats and effects.
Tip: Don’t rush bundles for upgrade materials—events and free shops (like the Merit Shop) will provide these over time.
Attribute Reroll System
One of the trickiest parts is the reroll system. Despite its name, it isn’t a full “reroll”—it’s essentially a chance-based upgrade.
- First reroll is free.
- Later rerolls require special reroll materials (found in shops).
- When rerolling, your adornment’s tier can:
- Go up a level.
- Stay the same.
- Rarely, go down a level.
Example Upgrade Chances:
- At early blue tiers: can’t downgrade.
- At higher tiers (gold+):
- 50% chance to go up.
- 30% chance nothing changes.
- 20% chance to go down.
This creates risk as you climb higher—pushing for red (Life Rings) carries the chance of downgrading if luck turns against you.
Dismantling Adornments
Don’t like an adornment? You can dismantle it to reclaim some materials. For example:
- Dismantling a blue adornment gives you back 5 materials.
This helps reduce waste and lets you recycle weak rolls.
Best Practices & Tips
- Focus on Your Main Troop Type:
If you’re cavalry, craft cavalry-related adornments first. The stats will matter more than random effects. - Don’t Overspend on Bundles:
Materials are expensive—$10 for 10 Mithriot Steel isn’t good value. Wait for events or use the Merit Shop. - Use Free Rerolls First:
Every adornment has one free reroll. Always use it before deciding whether to keep or dismantle. - Be Patient With RNG:
Special effects are random. Expect to craft and reroll multiple times before finding a great combo. - Upgrade Gradually:
Don’t rush to red tier. Blue → Purple → Gold offers plenty of power already without risking costly downgrades.
The Adornment system adds a new layer of depth to Age of Empires Mobile, giving you a way to customize mounts and enhance your army’s performance. While RNG can be frustrating, a patient approach—crafting multiple adornments, using free rerolls, and slowly upgrading—will pay off
