Evony Equipment Guide 2026 – Best Gear, Crafting Strategy
Most of your gear is made inside the Forge. This is where you craft, upgrade, disassemble, and refine every piece of equipment your generals will ever use.
You will also generate crafting materials in the Research Factory, which slowly feeds your forge with resources over time. If you are free-to-play, this building is extremely important because it gives you long-term material income.
Your Forge level does not need to be rushed. Level 35 already unlocks everything you realistically need for serious progression.
The Six Equipment Slots
Every general uses six pieces:
Helmet
Armor
Leg Armor
Boots
Ring
Weapon (Bow, Axe, Spear, or Sword)
These six pieces work together, and when they belong to the same set, they activate powerful set bonuses that massively increase your stats.
This is where most players either become strong — or stay weak forever.
Equipment Colors and Progression
Purple and orange gear are stepping stones.
Gold gear is transitional.
Red gear is the real goal.
Your real endgame always starts with Dragon and Achaemenidae (Ameadday) red equipment. Everything before that is temporary.
Choosing the Right Set for Each General
This is where equipment stops being generic and starts being strategic.
Ranged generals need ranged-focused sets.
Mounted generals need mounted-focused sets.
Ground and siege generals also have their own optimized sets.

Sub City Generals Have a Different Goal
Your sub city generals are not meant to fight — they exist to weaken your enemies before the battle even begins.
They should always run Achaemenidae Courageous full sets, because these reduce enemy troop stats and make your actual attack hit much harder.
A full six-piece Courageous debuff set is one of the biggest silent power boosts in the game.
Upgrading Equipment – Where Gear Becomes Elite
Once your red equipment is complete, you can upgrade it into higher tiers such as:
Arz
Imperial
Pantheon
Each upgrade increases buffs and changes how some stats apply. These upgrades require Forge Master Certificates, which are limited and valuable — use them only on the best gear.
This is where your equipment truly becomes endgame-ready.
Civilization Equipment – Premium Power
Civilization gear is stronger than normal red gear, but it is also extremely rare and slow to obtain unless you spend heavily.
If you ever manage to get even two or three civ pieces for a general, it is worth building your entire set around them.
These pieces can take months or even years to complete, but they give some of the strongest buffs in Evony.
Refining – The Final Layer of Power
Every piece of equipment can be refined.
This part alone can decide fights between two equally geared players.
Attack generals should use percentage refines.
Wall and sub city generals should use flat refines.
This difference is massive in real combat. Percentage refines scale your damage output, while flat refines weaken enemies more efficiently.
Bad refines can make god-tier gear perform like trash.
Good refines turn normal gear into monsters.
The Best Way to Copy Perfect Builds
One of the smartest tricks is using the General Rankings.
Go to Rankings → General Ranking → Top 100.
Click on top generals and look at their equipment and refines. This gives you real, tested endgame builds you can safely copy and adapt.
This single trick saved me months of trial and error.
