Heian Beginner Guide Wiki – Mechanics, Progression, Map
1. Core Mechanics — What Makes Heian Tick
Heian is a parry-based combat game, which means timing your blocks and counters is crucial. Unlike other parry games, Heian spices things up with unique moves:
- Uppercuts that chain into special light attacks (M1s)
- A cool down slam mechanic to mix up your attacks
The combat system is tight and rewarding once you master the timing.
UI & Bars You Need to Know
- Health Bar: Your life. Keep an eye on it.
- Cursed Energy Bar (Mana): Needed to perform special moves. It regenerates slowly.
- Posture Bar: Indicates your guard stamina—don’t let it break.
- RCT Bar: Unlockable bar that lets you heal yourself by consuming cursed energy.
Tip: Hold C to charge your cursed energy faster when you’re safe. Once you unlock RCT, hold G to heal during combat using your cursed energy and RCT bars.
Stats Breakdown
You get stat points to allocate (max 300), shaping your playstyle:
- Agility: Boosts your climbing ability and agility-related skills.
- Vitality: Increases your HP and tankiness.
- Strength: Increases your unarmed basic attack damage and strength-based skills.
- Cursed Energy: Increases your energy pool for abilities.
- Curse Output: Amplifies your curse technique damage but also makes moves cost more energy.
- Light/Medium/Heavy: Raises the damage of your weapon attacks.
2. Skill Tree & Black Flash Mechanics
Press M to open your Skill Tree where you unlock new moves as you level up.
How to Land a Black Flash
A Black Flash is a powerful, timed counter that boosts your damage. To pull it off:
- Watch for a red glow on your screen as you hit enemies.
- Quickly activate one of these moves: Divergent Fist, Reinforced Kick, or Crushing Advance.
- If timed perfectly, you’ll land a Black Flash for extra damage.
3. Map & Progression — Exploring Heian
Starting Point: Kirisaki Village (Safe Zone)
- This is your home base and safe zone.
- No quests or events will trigger here.
- Use it to prepare and plan before heading out.
Getting Out of Safe Zone
- Walk straight out past the bridge.
- Once out, quests and events will start spawning.
- Use Rune Stones to teleport across the map quickly — they’re your main fast travel method.
Regions to Explore
- Valley: Straight ahead from the safe zone.
- Tundra: To the left.
- Oasis: To the right.
Each region has a calamity boss that gives you a debuff until you kill it the first time. For example, the Tundra boss, Tango, causes you to “sing” (an annoying debuff) every 15 seconds until defeated.
Progression Tips
- Complete missions, kill enemies, and explore the map.
- Try to explore with friends — fighting bosses and completing quests together is more fun.
- PvP is also available and rewards more XP than PvE events.
4. PvP & Bounty Hunting
- Bounty boards are in every village.
- You can pick a target close to your rank to hunt.
- After accepting a bounty, you get an ESP marker on the target.
- Note: Sometimes bounties spawn far away, which hopefully gets fixed soon.
5. Crafting, Weapons & Cosmetics
Blacksmith NPC
- Use them to forge weapons and outfits.
- You’ll need recipes (mostly from chest or boss drops) and materials.
- Also, reputation points are required — gained by doing missions.
Pro Tip: Reputation system can be tedious, so grind missions regularly to stock up.
Weapon Drops
- Some weapons drop directly from bosses, like the Split Katana or the Wig Plate.
Barber NPC
- Change your hairstyle at any village’s barber NPC.
- Customize your look anytime.
Spawn Point Setting
- Pay 150 yen to set your spawn point at a village.
- Helpful for quick respawns near your favorite area.
Heian is all about mastering timing, exploring a rich map, and slowly building your character with stats, skills, and gear. Whether you prefer PvE, PvP, or a mix of both, there’s a lot to discover.
