Last Asylum Plague Heroes Guide – Classes, Factions
Combat in Last Asylum Plague is not determined by raw power alone. Every battle — whether you are attacking a player or fighting monsters — involves two separate systems influencing the outcome.
The first system comes from your squad build, which includes the heroes and their equipment.
The second system comes from your sanctuary development, which strengthens your entire army through long-term upgrades.
Understanding how these mechanics interact is the key to building a squad that consistently wins battles.
Last Asylum Plague Heroes Guide
Every fight between players or monsters includes two major groups of stats.
Squad Build Factors
These are directly related to your heroes.
- Hero level and base statistics
- Hero lineup bonus
- Hero gear
- Hero skills
- Honor Hall bonuses
These elements define how strong your squad is in combat.
Sanctuary Development Factors
These upgrades improve your entire army rather than individual heroes.
- Raven upgrades
- Technologies from research
- Curio decorations
- Soldier strength and numbers
Even if two squads have similar heroes, stronger sanctuary upgrades can tilt the battle heavily in one direction.
Hero Classes
Heroes fall into three main classes, and each class fulfills a specific role in battle.
Tank
Tank heroes are built to absorb damage.
Typical characteristics include:
- Low attack
- High health
- High defense
- Defensive skills
Their job is to stand on the frontline and protect the rest of the squad. Because of their durability, they can withstand heavy attacks for long periods.
Carry (Damage Dealer)
Carry heroes are responsible for dealing most of the damage.
Their characteristics usually include:
- High attack
- Low health
- Medium defense
- Damage-focused abilities
These heroes are powerful but fragile. They rely on tanks to keep enemies away from them so they can deal maximum damage.
Support
Support heroes strengthen the entire squad.
Typical traits include:
- Medium attack
- Medium health
- Low defense
- Buff or utility skills
Support heroes improve attack, defense, or survivability for the entire team. They are rarely effective on their own but can dramatically improve a full squad.
Hero Factions and Counter System
Every hero belongs to one of three factions.
- Warrior
- Ranger
- Warlock
These factions follow a counter system.
- Warriors take 20% less damage from Warlocks
- Rangers take 20% less damage from Warriors
- Warlocks take 20% less damage from Rangers
Choosing heroes that counter your opponent’s faction can significantly reduce incoming damage.
Lineup Bonus
Using heroes from the same faction provides additional stat bonuses. This is called the lineup bonus.
The bonuses increase depending on how many heroes share the same faction.
| Heroes of Same Faction | Bonus |
|---|---|
| 3 heroes | +5% stats |
| 3 + 2 from another faction | +10% stats |
| 4 heroes | +15% stats |
| 5 heroes | +20% stats |
Even a small percentage increase across all stats can have a large impact in combat.
Hero Skills
Each hero has five skill slots.
These skills fall into two categories.
Active Skills
Active skills trigger automatically during battle and have cooldown timers.
Examples include:
- Ultimate abilities
- Special attacks
- Temporary buffs
They activate periodically during combat and often deal the largest damage.
Passive Skills
Passive skills are always active.
They can:
- Increase attack or defense
- Improve damage against certain enemies
- Provide team buffs
These effects constantly influence combat performance.
Skill Types by Slot
Most SSR and UR heroes follow the same structure.
- Basic attack
- Ultimate skill (usually ~15s cooldown)
- Active skill (~5s cooldown)
- Passive skill or aura
- Bonus passive stat skill
Skill power increases through two upgrade systems.
Starring Up Heroes
Increasing star level unlocks additional effects for skills.
Many abilities have extra effects locked behind certain star levels. For example, a skill might gain additional damage or effects after reaching 10 stars.
Skill Level Upgrades
Skill badges can increase the level of skills.
Higher skill levels improve the base stats of abilities such as damage percentages, buff values, or healing strength.
Damage Types
Heroes deal two main types of damage.
Physical Damage
Displayed in orange.
This damage type is usually associated with melee or weapon-based attacks.
Energy Damage
Displayed in blue.
Energy damage is commonly used by warlock-type heroes and magical abilities.
In some battles it can be beneficial to mix damage types so enemies cannot easily resist all damage sources.
Attack Range
Heroes also differ by attack range.
There are two main types.
Melee
- Close-range attacks
- Used by all tank heroes
- Usually command sword-and-shield soldiers
Ranged
- Long-distance attacks
- Used by carry and support heroes
- Usually command bowmen units
The range affects which enemies the hero can target during battle.
Hero Gear
Each hero can equip four pieces of gear.
The goal is to eventually equip UR gear, since SSR gear is considered temporary.
Gear Types
Sword
Provides attack and critical damage bonuses.
Armor
Provides defense, health, and physical damage resistance.
Gauntlets
Provide attack, health, and all-damage resistance.
Boots
Provide defense, health, and energy damage resistance.
Gear Upgrade System
Gear can be upgraded up to Level 40 using:
- Gearstones
- Herbs
After level 40, additional materials such as blueprints are required.
Different hero classes benefit from different gear combinations.
Carry heroes benefit most from sword and gauntlets, which increase attack.
Tank heroes benefit most from armor and boots, which increase survivability.
Squad Formation
A squad can contain up to five heroes arranged in two rows.
Front row: 2 positions
Back row: 3 positions
Frontline heroes usually take damage first, while backline heroes provide damage or support.
Each hero commands a group of troops that participate in combat as well.
Battle Phases
Combat generally progresses through three phases.
Settling Phase
At the beginning of the fight, the two squads split into smaller sub-groups.
Frontline tanks engage each other while backline heroes support their side. In this phase, the battle is essentially two smaller fights happening simultaneously.
Tipping Phase
Once a frontline hero dies, the battle shifts.
The enemy team begins focusing all attacks on the remaining frontline hero. This often creates a sudden momentum shift where one team gains the advantage.
Routing Phase
When both frontline heroes die, the battle enters the final stage.
Backline heroes become exposed and begin targeting each other directly. Usually the team that loses its frontline first will collapse quickly during this phase.
Optimal Hero Positioning
Correct positioning is critical for squad efficiency.
Placing heroes in the wrong position can dramatically weaken your squad.
A common recommended setup is:
Position 1 – Tank
Position 2 – Tank
Position 3 – Damage Dealer
Position 4 – Damage Dealer
Position 5 – Support
This arrangement ensures tanks absorb damage while carry heroes focus on eliminating enemy frontline heroes as quickly as possible.
Long-Term Hero Investment Strategy
Since resources are limited and cannot easily be reset, it’s important to plan your hero development carefully.
Choose your ideal squad early and focus your resources on those heroes rather than constantly switching.
Damage dealers should usually receive the highest priority because battles are ultimately won by eliminating enemies.
After upgrading damage dealers, tanks should be upgraded next, followed by support heroes.
Recommended Upgrade Priority
A balanced upgrade plan usually follows this order.
Damage Dealers
Support Heroes
Tank Heroes
Resources should also be invested one hero at a time rather than spreading upgrades across multiple heroes.
Having one extremely strong hero often performs better than having several average ones.
Squad building in Last Asylum Plague is much deeper than simply choosing strong heroes.
Faction counters, lineup bonuses, positioning, gear, and skill upgrades all influence the outcome of battles. Players who understand these systems can often defeat stronger opponents by using better formations and smarter hero combinations.
Mastering these mechanics is what separates an average squad from a truly powerful one.
