Chrono Gear Warden of Time Fishing Guide – Unlock Fishing
Want to unlock all seven fish, grab a rare Golden Cog, or just relax between battles? This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about fishing in Chrono Gear: Warden of Time — how to unlock it, where to fish, what to catch, and how your time powers can give you a serious edge.
How to Unlock Fishing
Fishing becomes available after you’ve made some story progress. Here’s how to get started:
- Beat Kronii’s World, which is the first major area in the game.
- Enter Fauna’s World, and reach its main hub section.
- From there, head right, cross the water, and look for a small fishing hut.
- Inside the hut, a short cutscene will play.
- Once it’s over, you’ll receive your Fishing Rod and be ready to begin.
Where to Fish and What to Expect
You only have two fishing spots to work with:
- Left of the hut
- Right of the hut
After a lot of testing, there doesn’t seem to be any real difference between the two. Both locations give access to the full fish list.
Fish You Can Catch (7 total):
- Dace
- Trout
- Bream
- Salmon
- Carp
- Pike
- Eel
From experience, Dace, Trout, and Bream are the most common. Pike and Eel are noticeably rarer. Interestingly, after hitting a combo streak of 80,000+, rarer fish like Salmon and Eel began showing up more frequently — though this might have just been coincidence.
You’ll also notice that larger fish (like Pike or Salmon) look bigger in the water, while thinner species (like Eel) are more narrow and snake-like.
If you’re aiming to catch them all, patience is key. It took around 20 minutes of active fishing to complete the collection.
Using Time Powers While Fishing
Once you start fishing, your time-bending skills come into play in clever ways.
- Speeding Up Time (Before a Bite):
It doesn’t actually reduce waiting time. All you get is a little joke text that says, “Waiting Faster.” Fun, but not functional. - During the Catch (After Bite):
- Slow Time: This is the most useful power. It slows the fish’s movement, making the catch bar easier to manage.
- Speed Time: Speeds up the progress bar and slightly slows the fish, but it’s harder to control. Still usable, just not as effective as slow time.
Golden Cog and Rewards
- Occasionally, you’ll see a shiny star-shaped fish silhouette in the water. This is a Golden Cog, a rare catch.
- Once you catch a new type of fish, head to the Fishing Board (near the hut) to claim a reward: a Thread of Time.
- These Threads can be spent on cosmetic backgrounds and music CDs in various shops throughout the game.
Bonus: Hidden Flower Achievement
- Travel as far right as possible past the fishing area and cross the water.
- You’ll find a small flower. Interact with it to unlock the “Flower” achievement.
- Doing so triggers Kronii’s special line: “Flower.”
Fishing in Chrono Gear: Warden of Time is a small but satisfying side activity that rewards you with items, achievements, and a peaceful break from combat. With a bit of time, some clever use of your powers, and a little luck, you’ll reel in everything this mini-game has to offer.
